Name: Natalie, Nat
Preferred Name: Nat
My Number One OTP: Nakachii aka Yutochii or Chijima
Introduction:
Hello, you can call me Nat. I think shonen-ai (boy love) is such adorable romance, what I like about Yuto and Chinen is that I find their bond is of close mutual understanding. Although the others will call Chinen a flirt, Yuto will always stick up for Chinen by saying, "but it's cute". Yuto seems to always speak well of Chinen with confidence. I find that adorable and also the fact that Chinen has hinted at it many times by saying that he's wanted to have a date with Yuto, hence I felt obliged to write, "Be Mine". Also, you can see a great interaction between the two in YYclub and the fact that they have a duet solo in the new concerts where Chinen jumps into Yuto's arms is just more evidence as to why this couple is love. <3 Whether they are your favourite or not, you can't help but think the two compliment each other well, especially with the adorable height difference. ^_^
A little about me, I'm just your average girl who loves to write stories. Although, this will be my first time writing boy/boy love so go easy on me. XD I'm pretty friendly so feel free to add me as a friend! Although, I'm new to lj and I still don't know how all the functions work, so if you want me to add you back, please comment anywhere on my lj, I'll be sure to reply! =D

Summary: Chinen has always been in love with Yuto since the debut of Hey! Say! 7, unable to express his feelings, he finds himself building a wall between the two. Yuto who has a cheerful personality finds himself falling into depression as his family is falling apart and as his popularity declines. Can Chinen break down barriers before its too late? Chapter 6:

Both boys lay side by side on the grass allowing the cool breeze to tousle their hair. Yuto was in deep thought, the silence in his house was slowly starting to trouble him and he couldn’t help but wonder when his father would bother emailing him again. Did he mean that little to him?

What he hated the most about being at home was dinner time, to eat alone in silence was always depressing for him because he would find himself remembering back to the days where he ate with the entire family and how Raiya would always grab food from his plate mischievously. The only things that remained painful to him now were the memories.

Shaken out of his thoughts by Chinen who was now gently tapping his cheek with a flower, he smiled at the smaller boy who was grinning at him happily.

               “A gift!” Chinen exclaimed.

“For me?” Yuto inquired taking the flower from Chinen.

Chinen nodded as Yuto stared blankly at the flower, the more he looked at it the more touched he felt. How was it that Chinen knew whenever he was feeling down? Chinen would always do something when he was sad, any antic possible one could think of and what was amazing was that Yuto would never even have to voice his feelings because Chinen always knew.

“Thank you.” He said softly now smiling as he looked closely at each petal. Their lunch time was always so peaceful and Chinen was always so adorable. Chinen never showed any strange or upset behaviour during their times alone which remained a mystery to him. It was as if they were both in a different world when they were together but Chinen’s rude attitude continued to persist otherwise which caused Yuto to always be puzzled by the real reasoning behind it all.

He let out a soft snort, smiling as Chinen played with his bangs; something he had become accustomed to by now, although he still wasn’t used to much contact otherwise so it still sort of tickled.

Letting out a yelp of laughter as Chinen gently brushed his cheek, Chinen raised an eyebrow questioningly.

“You’re really ticklish.” Chinen said affectionately while smirking.

“I can’t help it!” Yuto pouted feeling it was unfair that Chinen was always the one doing as he pleased and making fun of him to boot. “It’s not fair! You’re always the only playing with my hair, see if you can withstand how ticklish it is.”

“Go ahead,” Chinen replied seriously, “if you want to play with my hair you can.” Yuto gulped a bit, not expecting such a serious reply. Not wanting to be defeated by Chinen’s declaration in which he took as a challenge he readied himself; sitting now upright, facing one another on their knees, Yuto shyly raised his hand to the top side of Chinen’s head.

“Here I go,” he said lightly brushing the hair and moving his hand down towards the loose hairs near Chinen’s cheek. His hair felt soft under his touch and his skin was nice and smooth. Chinen was staring at him as he awkwardly but gently experimented in playing with Chinen’s hair. Yuto was surprisingly feeling very nervous, he didn’t know what it was and although he felt embarrassed and his cheeks were getting hot, he couldn’t stop himself and gently continued.

Resting his hand on Chinen’s cheek they stared at each other lost for words, Yuto could hear his heartbeat quicken and he noted the rose colour that was starting to appear on the other boy’s cheeks. Time seemingly had stopped as Yuto felt a strange sensation overcome him as he slowly felt drawn towards the smaller boy’s face, the school bell rung allowing both boys out of their trance. Eyes widening, Yuto quickly pulled his hand away and abruptly stood up.

“L-let’s g-go.” Yuto stammered confused as to what just happened.

“Uh...yeah.” Chinen replied also seemingly lost and following momentarily after Yuto.

+++

Yuto had barely paid attention to any of the lessons, what exactly had happened to him during lunch time, he was certainly becoming weird. What in the world was he doing anyway? He was worried over it; perhaps he was ill? Remembering back to the way Chinen had been looking at him, he blushed remembering the desperation in Chinen’s eyes. Shaking his head, he brushed off the idea, there was no way Chinen would look at him that way, he was obviously the weird one here making things up.

‘He was so pretty.’ Suddenly a light bulb flicked in his mind and he concluded simplemindedly that he was merely in awe at how pretty Chinen was for a boy and that was probably all there was to it. Feeling content with his own conclusion he felt relief sweep over his body.

Unfortunately for Chinen, he had begun a false sense of hope that perhaps Yuto was starting to feel the same way he did. He began to feel a great sense of joy and he remembered back to how red Yuto looked while touching his hair. Yuto was just the most adorable boy Chinen knew and although he was clumsy and somewhat dense when it came to love, he was an honest person.

Perhaps it was too soon to think too much into things because it only depressed him more when Yuto acted so casually on the way to the photo shoot. Of course Yuto’s oblivious and normal attitude only upset Chinen more causing him to get slightly irritated by the taller boy. Yuto frowned, Chinen was obviously bothered by something again, he didn’t quite understand it but he was certain Chinen was fine during lunch time. Yuto boggled his mind for answers but each time his answers came out jumbled. He was accustomed to Chinen’s strange mood swings now and knew it was best to remain silent for the rest of the way.

Entering the studio, Yuto happily greeted Keito followed once again by an angry huff by Chinen. About to question why Chinen’s sudden mood swing had gotten worse he was interrupted by Keito.

“I think he hates me,” Keito said frowning.

“I-I don’t think that’s it, he’s never really said anything about that.” Yuto replied reassuringly.

“I don’t know, but no worries about that, oh yes, I promised you yesterday I’d show you how to properly grip the strings down, here, give me your hand.”

+++

Chinen stared angrily as Keito was yet again touching Yuto, ‘You indecent little...’

“Why is it that every time I see you your squeezing juice boxes?”

Chinen gasped and embarrassedly grabbed tissues from the table.

“What are you even looking at?” Ryutaro stared surprised to see a familiar sight from the last time Chinen had acted oddly.

“Wait, I thought you became friends with Yuto now, why are you still glaring at him? Or could it be Keito, but Keito doesn’t even talk to you...” suddenly realization dawned upon the younger boy. A smile was slowly forming on his face, one of which was beginning to horrify Chinen.

“Oh my god...d-don’t tell me, Chinen,” he was giggling now, “you’re in love with Yut—”

“Shhh!!!” Chinen panicked, desperately covering Ryutaro’s mouth with his hand and nearly yanking the boy to the ground, “not so loud.”

“What’s?” he said in English for added emphasis, “So it’s true, you just admitted it, wow! I can’t believe I never realized before, it all makes so much sense now, why you were so mean and all.”

“Ryutaro just stop,” Chinen said in a low voice putting his arm around the younger but taller boy, “I know I never beg but I am begging you to not tell a single soul about this, you understand?”

Ryutaro nodded somewhat fearing the look Chinen was giving him, “Don’t worry I won’t tell a soul.”

“Do you promise?” Chinen said giving the best puppy eye expression he could possibly do.

Ryutaro nodded even more afraid of what Chinen’s puppy eye expression meant if he didn’t comply. His agreement caused Chinen to take a deep breath of relief. “You’re so nice!” Chinen said squeezing Ryutaro’s cheeks.

“Stop treating me like a kid.”Ryutaro sighed batting Chinen’s hand away.

+++

Keito laughed watching Chinen squeeze Ryutaro’s cheek who looked quite annoyed and tired.

“I wonder what they’re doing.” Chuckling he looked over surprised to see Yuto staring at the two expressionlessly but Keito had taken notice that his eyes looked deeply hurt.

“Yuto... are you okay?” Keito asked concerned.

“Hmm? Oh what?” Yuto shook his head vigorously in disbelief, “Oh yeah, I’m fine, I’m going to go to the washroom.”

Storming off he walked aimlessly through the halls letting his body lead the way, what was wrong with him today? He was definitely becoming strange, why did he suddenly feel so upset seeing Ryutaro and Chinen together. He was not himself at all today; reaching the washroom he ran to the sink and splashed cold water onto his face in hopes of cooling his head. Staring at his reflection and calming his breaths from running he said to himself, “Nakajima Yuto, get it together! You are acting weird!”

Wiping his face with a paper towel he could hear someone entering.

Chinen walked in humming a familiar tune from one of their albums, seeing Yuto, he smiled. Upon getting closer, his smile faded realizing how pale Yuto looked and that his bangs were dampened.

“What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?” He was deeply concerned, touching Yuto’s forehead causing the taller boy to blush profusely; he concluded that Yuto wasn’t sick although he did look somewhat red all of a sudden.

Yuto shook his head vigorously once again; he probably didn’t get enough sleep last night that must have been it. Once again feeling calmed by his own conclusion, slowly his worries once again dissipated and he calmly remembered he had something to ask Chinen during lunch time in which he had completely forgotten due to of course certain circumstances he thought were best to ignore at this time.

“Hey Chinen, you know how I said I’ve been quite lonely, I was wondering if you minded sleeping over some time.”

Chinen’s eyes lit up with delight but slowly it faded remembering a certain someone, “But wouldn’t you want to ask Keito first? I mean it looks like you have a lot of fun with him.”

“What? Keito is Keito and Chinen is Chinen, I’m asking you because I want you to come of course.” He was honest with his answer and also slightly confused as to why Chinen would say such a thing or bring up Keito in the first place.

Hearing Yuto say those words was like music to his ears but of course Chinen was never really an honest person and his reply came out haughtily and rude.

“Fine, I’ll come because you asked so nicely.” Chinen secretly cursed his sharp tongue.

“That’s great! I’d like that.” Yuto smiled cutely and unfazed by Chinen’s rude reply. This caused Chinen to just want to embrace the guy tightly right then and there.

“...When can I come?” he said in an inaudible voice now looking away and slightly blushing out of happiness.

               “I’m sorry?”

“When can I come!..I said...” He said roughly, trying to hide his excitement.

“Oh, anytime, tomorrow is even okay, just ask your mom to see if she’s okay with it, you can stay as long as you like too.”

“Oh, alright, I’ll drop by tomorrow.” Chinen said still trying to hide any sort of happiness he was experiencing at the moment. Walking out of the washroom, he quickly poked his head through the door once again startling Yuto who was now wiping his bangs.

“I’m only coming because you’re so lonely and all, it’s not like I really want to come or anything.” He said trying to prove himself.

Yuto nodded nervously, “Um yeah that’s fine, if you don’t want to come it’s okay too.”

“NO! I’m coming!” Chinen said panicked by Yuto’s quick change of mind.

“Um okay...great! See you tomorrow then.” Yuto was smiling again, cheerfully.

“Uh yeah, see you.” He closed the door calmly. As soon as the door was shut a smile emerged on his face as he began to skip down the hallway happily. ‘Sleepover at Yuto’s! Sleepover at Yuto’s!’ his mind was singing. Chinen giggled to himself happily as he pondered what he should pack tonight.

A/N: I have to say I had a lot of fun writing this chapter, Yuto is in denial while Chinen is being as dishonest as ever. <3

Yuto who has a cheerful personality finds himself falling into depression as his family is falling apart and as his popularity declines. Can Chinen break down barriers before its too late? How can puppy love escalate into desire and true love?

Chapter 5:

Their relationship was definitely becoming strange. A few weeks had passed and the divorce had finally been settled. Yuto was now living with his father and unfortunately for him, his father was the kind who left for yearlong business trips, which left Yuto to pretty much dwell in his loneliness by himself.

Despite his mature attitude towards the whole ordeal and his mature appearance, Yuto was still after all a fifteen year old boy; one that was a pop star who needed more than anything to have the support from a family. Regardless of his misery, he managed to move on and that was truly thanks to one person, and that person was none other than Chinen.

He looked forward to school hours now, not having much work from Johnny’s anymore, and the fact that he was losing fans due to his height didn’t bother him anymore either because as long as he could be near Chinen, he felt a odd sense of happiness. He had grown to be slightly dependent on the smaller boy, which he felt awful for but it wasn’t entirely his own fault either.

“Now Yuto, say ahh,”Chinen cooed smiling that usual adorable smile he did.

Yuto stared at the sushi roll held between Chinen’s chopsticks, “Eh? But Chinen, I told you I’m fine now and I’m eating properly again, you don’t have to baby me anymore.” Yuto insisted.

Chinen pouted, “You don’t want my sushi roll,” he put on a sad face, one that seemed to always be able to pinch Yuto’s heart slightly, “I see, I guess you don’t need me anymor—”

Yuto hastily put his mouth over the sushi held in Chinen’s chopsticks and began to chew, “It’s so good!” Yuto said honestly and slightly riveted with panic. Chinen smiled once again, proud of himself and happy with Yuto’s reaction.

Soon after, Yuto began to no longer refuse what Chinen asked of him, secretly, he didn’t mind it either and he actually liked lying in Chinen’s lap and being fed by Chinen during lunch hours. At first he had been embarrassed, thinking it was really strange to do such things with another boy, but soon he began to accept that Chinen was probably just being Chinen and as long as he wasn’t over imposing himself and Chinen was the one offering, he didn’t find the need to refuse anymore.

However, Yuto was beginning to realize that during that long period of time that the two of them didn’t speak to one another, there had been a lot of things that Yuto didn’t know about Chinen anymore, let alone understand what was going on through his mind.

Chinen was constantly getting mad at Keito and even himself recently and he didn’t really understand what was going on. What really irked him was that Chinen was definitely hiding things from, although Chinen knew of his problems, it seemed as though Chinen was doing his best in keeping his own problems to himself. There was one instant that he could remember which had bothered Yuto greatly.

-Flashback-

“Yuto, can I feed you again today?” Chinen asked happily.

“Oh okay,” Yuto returned the smile not thinking much about it today.

“Y’know, if you guys keep that up, people are going to start thinking you guys are gay or something,” Yamada joked with some seriousness behind it.

“What?! We’re not gay!” Yuto yelled angrily.

“Whatever, don’t listen to him Yuto, he’s just jealous,” Chinen said calmly not bothering to even look over at Yamada as he readied his chopsticks.

“I know you guys aren’t, I’m just saying people are going to get the wrong idea, Chinen’s already known as the school’s slu—”

“Enough! Yamada!” Chinen now stood up from his seat. He didn’t want Yuto to know about that, anyone but Yuto. A flirty behaviour always came with consequences, although the rumour wasn’t true, teenagers were cruel. The whole school was beginning to believe it and Chinen, who had become accustomed for being known as someone who craved attention didn’t care all that much anymore. Only if it was Yuto he would care. If Yuto believed it he didn’t know what he could do. The idea scared him and to be hated or looked down by the other boy, he couldn’t bare it.

“Yamada, I’m sorry, do you mind letting us have lunch alone today,” Chinen said coated with anger, eyes now closed.  Yamada, not really understanding why Chinen was making a big deal out of it today when usually he would make a joke out of it, shrugged it off and silently left giving a polite apology. Chinen told him it was fine and once Yamada was gone he slumped back into his seat looking quite miserable.

Yuto frowned at Chinen who now had a worried and upset atmosphere surrounding him. Not knowing whether or not it was right of him to ask any questions he sat down silently next to Chinen and put his one arm around Chinen’s shoulder. Chinen leaned into Yuto and thought to himself sadly, ‘Please don’t hate me.’

-End of Flashback-

Yuto strummed the guitar once again hitting the same incorrect note.

Keito laughed, “Yuto, you did it again, here let me show you how you’re supposed to hold it.” Walking behind Yuto, Keito leaned into him and put his hands on top of Yuto’s hand that were resting on top of the strings.

“Hey! Hey! Hey!” Chinen yelled out fiercely.

Both boys who were on the guitars quickly stared over at the one who was causing a commotion and waited to see why Chinen was calling out the way he did.

Chinen bit his bottom lip, he had yelled out without thinking again. Keito was getting too close to Yuto for his own comfort and now seeing that the two boys in front of him were expecting him to say something he fidgeted a bit in his chair.

“Hey! Hey! Hey! Bokura wa heisei Only! Shouwa de Show wa muri! Hahaha, you guys are doing great I just felt like singing.” Chinen felt his cheeks go red out of embarrassment, ‘How lame,’ he thought.

Keito whispered to Yuto, “So yeah, why is he here again?”

“He said he was thinking of joining the band too so he wanted to see how practice was.”

“Hmm, that’s fine but Yuto...doesn’t it seem like he’s glaring at us.” Keito said now staring at Chinen who was seated on the chair, “and he looks really bored otherwise when he’s not glaring too.” Keito inquired.

“What do you mean...?” Yuto trailed off to see that Chinen was indeed glaring. There it was again, this odd behaviour from Chinen he never quite understood.

Seeing Yuto staring at him with concern, he crossed his arms and looked away, “Hmph”.

‘Chinen, what’s wrong?’ Yuto thought, worried now, what had he done to cause Chinen to act this way?

+++

Chinen awoke feeling as though he was on a moving surface; opening his eyes he realized that he was resting against Yuto’s back. When had he fallen asleep? The last thing he remembered was that Yuto and Keito kept playing this one note over and over again and he had only rested his head on the desk beside him for a short moment, how did he end up here?

“Hey, you’re going to fall, put your arms around my neck.” Yuto said gently.

Chinen did so accordingly and slowly began to take in his surroundings; Yuto was carrying him along with both their knapsacks. Yuto was so kind, even though he had a lot to carry he didn’t even ask Chinen to get off and only told him to hold on tighter. Hugging Yuto closer and feeling depressed with his own sour behaviour, he caused Yuto to stop a bit and look over at him with worry. Seeing that he was unwilling to talk anytime soon, Yuto continued walking.

In truth, Chinen was mad at himself, here Yuto was being so nice to him and he was becoming obsessive again. He had no right to act the way he did to Yuto or Keito for that matter. They weren’t doing anything wrong, they were merely hanging out but he couldn’t help but get upset. He had been doing it a lot these days and Yuto, being the kind person as usual only seemed concerned for him rather than mad at him which just made him feel all the more in the wrong.

“Hey Chinen...”Yuto said softly, waiting for a reply and when he didn’t receive one he decided to continue anyway, “Did I do something wrong today? If there’s a problem you can tell me, I’ll do my best to fix it.”

Chinen sadly leaned his head more into Yuto’s back, ‘you’re always so nice, it’s hard not love you,’ he thought bitterly, ‘I’m sorry for being selfish and always wanting you for myself.’ He squeezed his eyes tightly together.

“No, it’s nothing, don’t worry about it.” He replied nonchalantly feeling all the more guiltier for lying to Yuto when he was so concerned for him. But he couldn’t say the truth, not yet, not ever.

“Okay...” Yuto replied in a small voice not wanting to pry any more than he should.

The rest of the walk home remained silent.

‘I wish you could trust me in the way that I trust you.’ This thought continued to linger in Yuto’s mind as he walked slowly down the path towards home.

---

A/N: It seems Chinen is having some problems of his own now and Yuto is doing his best to be supportive. Let’s hope for the best for these two <3 ^_^

Thank you for your comments again, I’m so happy to see familiar readers drop by again, I’ve missed you guys *hugs*  Thanks for all of you who are still supporting this story, you guys are what makes me love to write! =D

Chapter 4:

Chinen felt as though a heavy weight had been pushed against his body, slowly opening his eyes he was greeted with the night sky. Confusion overtook him as the night’s events slowly replayed in his mind.

Realizing that there was a steady breath against his chest, he looked down to see Yuto peacefully sleeping.

‘Well, at least one of us is comfortable,” he thought smiling to himself despite the fact that his body was beginning to feel numb, he felt content just being able to be close to the other boy.

Freeing one of his hands from Yuto’s body, he gently began to stroke the top of Yuto’s head, being careful as to not wake him.

Remembering back to Yuto’s words, he felt his chest tighten with deep regret. He claimed that he was the one who cared for Yuto the most, but in reality he had been too immersed with his own feelings to even realize Yuto had become this depressed person. If only he had realized sooner, he was sure Yuto was strong, but sometimes people needed others to lean on, which he didn’t allow Yuto to get close to anyone. He had left Yuto to deal with his problems alone, he felt terrible. Lost in his own thoughts, he began to mindlessly play with Yuto’s hair as he stared blankly into the night sky.

Yuto awoke to a nice sensation; usually he hated it when someone touched his hair but somehow he found himself enjoying it and remained silently in that position. It was comforting somehow and it just felt so nice. Shifting his position for more comfort he soon regretted the action for the hand had stopped its ministrations. Slowly opening his eyes he heard a familiar voice say, “You’re heavy.”

Finally out of his sleeping state, he jolted out of his position, embarrassed to be lying in such a way.

“Sorry,” he replied sheepishly. After repositioning themselves so that they were now sitting side by side, both boys sat awkwardly in silence.

Yuto, for one, was absolutely embarrassed for crying in front of Chinen the way he did and waking up on top of him didn’t help much either. Chinen, on the other hand, was unsure what to say and how to explain his own sudden change of behaviour. He worried Yuto would ask him why he was acting the way he was because in truth, he didn’t know how he would reply, he could never tell Yuto the real reason. If so, he would certainly lose every connection he had with him, which was something he had feared for a very long time.

Chinen wanted more than anything now to get close to Yuto as possible in order to support him out of his troubles. He didn’t ever want Yuto to feel lonely the way he did again, the only problem now was how he could suddenly change to a supportive friend from a rude one who didn’t care. What was worse, would Yuto be willing to accept his support? Especially when he had been one of the causes as to why Yuto felt so excluded in the first place.

Finally Yuto was the one who broke the silence, “Wow, I can’t believe we fell asleep out here, I checked and we’ve been sleeping for an hour. We have school tomorrow so we should head home.”

“Yeah...” Chinen replied, feeling somewhat disappointed that this was going to be the end result. What made it worse was that Yuto wasn’t looking his way, although it was more out of embarrassment if anything, Chinen however mistook it as a sign of rejection. This only made him feel the gap between them was a much larger one that he could mend. Getting up he politely declared his leave and Chinen hopelessly watched his back silently. Could they go back to the way they used to be or would they continue to speak formally as strangers forever?

‘How can I reach you?’ he thought sadly.

+++

He yanked out the weed and groaned angrily unable to get the entire root. Lunch time had come sooner than expected and despite what anyone thought, he didn’t completely ignore yard duty. He worked the bare minimum everyday at the very least.

Looking over at the window, he could see Yuto working arduously on his homework. He smiled sadly, it was the same afterall, Yuto was alone and he was once again watching him from a distance. It was fine wasn’t it? He had watched Yuto from a distance before, why did he suddenly think otherwise anyways? Plus, he had pride, he wasn’t going to back down, if he let himself fall for such a trap he would definitely become over obsessive again and that would not be for the better, he was sure of it. Suddenly, he saw Yuto cover his face with both hands; he was definitely crying again and he cringed seeing him try to vigorously wipe away his own tears.

‘Ah! Screw my pride!’ Chinen thought grabbing a small pebble on the ground and throwing it at the windowsill. Once again his body worked against him, he was unprepared and he felt himself grow small as Yuto got up from his seat and walk towards the window. Opening the window, he looked confused and surprised to see Chinen holding a shovel and some weeds.

“Um...hi! Let’s have lunch together!”Chinen yelled, slowly feeling confident in his own words.

+++

Yuto stared in awe at the garden Chinen was working on, he had never paid attention to the school’s courtyard before; the rose bushes were cut neatly and the grass had never looked so green. The cherry blossoms only added to the scenery. He took in a breath of fresh air and smiled happily. Looking over to Chinen, he could see the boy scowling angrily at the stubborn weed.

“Do you need help?” Yuto asked sincerely.

“No, it’s my responsibility so I must do it myself.” He said proudly.

               Yuto smiled, “That’s a very Chii-like answer.”

Chinen looked at Yuto for a moment, shocked that Yuto would use that line again, one he hadn’t heard in so long. Touched by just hearing ‘Chii-like’ from Yuto, he added more effort in digging up the next weed.

Seeing Chinen’s determination made Yuto smile but recalling the embarrassing events of last night made him look down once again shyly.

“Hey,” he said gently holding onto Chinen’s sleeve, “thanks for yesterday, thank you for listening. The truth is all that stuff I said about wanting to leave Johnny’s and hating you, it wasn’t true. I’m sorry I said such horrible things; the truth is I was just sad over other things. You know, I overheard my parents talking and they said Mama is going to take Raiya and leave for sure. They’re leaving me.”

He forced a smile but a tear managed to escape again.

“Oh god, the tears won’t stop, this must be weird for you I’m sorry,” he laughed sheepishly.

Chinen looked sadly at Yuto. ‘Don’t apologize,’ he thought unable to say the words. He could understand how hard it was for Yuto, he knew how much Yuto loved Raiya, there were days he couldn’t stop talking about how much he missed his brother when they had their tours. Life was so cruel and it was even sadder to see Yuto hold back his tears so painfully.

Still laughing at himself and rubbing his eyes with his sleeves he said softly, “You know you’re the first person I cried in front of so I feel terrible for making you feel uncomfortable-”

Chinen shook his head and quickly cut him off, not wanting to hear anymore apologies. Although he felt awful for him, he was somewhat happy to hear he was the first person Yuto had opened up to, even if it was merely by chance, it didn’t change the fact that he was the first, did it?

“Do you think it’s for sure?” he said with concern and Yuto could only nod feeling more tears fall. Unsure of what to say, he sat silently. Talking people out of their troubles had never been his forte, he was known for having a sharp tongue after all.

Feeling words would only sound empty he hastily searched his memory to try to remember the things that had comforted him in his own tough times. An idea instantly popped into his head and he dropped the shovel and yanked off his gardening gloves. Walking over to the cherry blossom tree, he sat down in the shade and motioned Yuto to come over. Yuto who still had tears brimming the rims of his eyes walked curiously over to Chinen. Chinen smiled and patted his lap. Yuto stared at the lap for a while, unsure of what Chinen wanted him to do.

“Come on, put your head here.” Chinen said once again patting his lap.

Yuto blinked in confusion, “Eh? ...but Chinen, this is embarrassing...” he said lightly blushing. Even though they did it for photo shoots, they never spontaneously lay on each other’s laps otherwise. It was just odd really, to do such a thing.

“Just do it, hurry up before I change my mind!” Chinen replied pouting somewhat blushing himself now.

Not wanting to see Chinen mad and curious as to what Chinen would do, he complied. As he nervously rested his head on top of Chinen’s lap he looked up curiously at the other boy. Cautiously, Chinen began to gently run his hands through Yuto’s hair. Yuto, who was laying rigid felt himself slowly relax to the other boys touch, the painful feelings of all his troubles slowly calmed and he could hear Chinen’s gentle words.

“There there, everything is going to be okay.” Yuto’s eyes widened because somehow, even though Chinen only said such simple words, he felt as though everything would truly be okay now, suddenly he felt his heart skip a beat. Unsure of what this feeling was, he somehow felt truly happy.

Chinen scoffed at himself, embarrassed. “I don’t know any other way to help you, but when I’m sad this is what my mom does for me and I always feel better. It’s probably not the same affect because I’m doing it though.” He looked somewhat depressed as he let out a sigh.

“No,” Yuto said quietly, “It worked, thank you.”

Hearing this Chinen grinned back at Yuto. With the background of the blue sky and Chinen’s smiling face, the only word that could describe what Yuto thought of Chinen’s smile at that moment was beautiful.

Although I had hoped to continue a daily pace of a chapter per day, this may prove to be difficult due to many real life obligations. Unfortunately, I may not be able to work on Chapter 4 until the following week. To those avid readers, thank you for your support. I am truly happy!
Most likely, for future knowledge, updates will become weekly instead of daily, I hate to do this *sighs* but summer is coming to an end. Once again, thanks to those who are following this story, it means a lot and I do hope you continue to enjoy the upcoming chapters!

Yuto who has a cheerful personality finds himself falling into depression as his family is falling apart and as his popularity declines. Can Chinen break down barriers before its too late? How can puppy love escalate into desire and true love?

Chapter 3:

He couldn’t sleep all night, he had messed up big time, how was he supposed to know that his mom switched his handkerchief with the one that had his name on it? What did Yuto think about it? Did he even care? Multiple excuses continued to play throughout his mind in case Yuto were to ask. He had been prepared for it all day.

To his surprise, during the photo shoot, Yuto did not approach him, not even once. Although he had dreaded the situation he felt his face falter when Yuto walked right past him and straight to Keito. He could see them together; Yuto was giggling happily, the usual Yuto-like expressions he had longed to see. The ones he rarely showed anymore. If only Yuto showed him such expressions rather than the pallid, fake smiles he always received. He was jealous, so goddamn jealous.

               ‘Damn you Keito...’he scorned.

“Hey if you keep that up you won’t have any juice left.” Ryutaro inquired pointing to the juice box that was being crushed between Chinen’s hand; the purple liquid oozed all over the table.

“Oh Ryutaro,” he said, grabbing tissues from the table and quickly wiping away the mess, “I didn’t see you. Hey can I ask you, what’s the relationship between those two?”

Ryutaro wrinkled his nose, “Uh...they work together in Hey! Say! JUMP?” he replied not sure of what kind of answer Chinen was looking for.

“No, not that, I mean when were they so close? I don’t remember seeing them much together before.”

“Oh, well Yuto and Keito got close this year because they’re band members, I think he’s been teaching him the guitar, also Yuto’s been having some family problems so he slept over at Keito’s a couple of times.” Ryutaro explained somewhat uninterested with the topic.

Ignoring Ryutaro, Chinen’s mind went ballistic, ‘What? Yuto has been sleeping over...sleeping over…at Keito’s, what is this?! How dare he, how many times?! Don’t tell me they...could they have? Agh!’ he was now clutching the sides of his head, the not so innocent thoughts infiltrated the young boy’s mind, an agonized expression written on his face. After dying a couple of times in his own thoughts, he realized something else Ryutaro had said.

“Family problems?” he blinked, his head finally clearing, “what kind of problems?”

“You didn’t hear? Well I guess you and Yuto aren’t really that close, it seems his parents might get a divorce. He’s been down this past month, I saw him crying once by himself in the dressing room, the poor guy.” Ryutaro frowned.

“A divorce?” he repeated. Chinen was surprised, wasn’t Yuto’s family perfect, but it made a lot of sense now as to why Yuto wasn’t his usual happy self. Yuto cared for his family a lot; he always spoke so much about them so it was quite alarming to even hear that such a family could have problems.

“What about Raiya?” he asked, coated with concern.

“He’s been on a school trip so he has no idea what’s going on.”

“So Yuto has been dealing with this problem all by himself, this entire time?”

“Yeah,” he frowned but then confusion overtook his face, “wait a minute, why do you care? I mean, don’t you hate Yuto?”

“I-I don’t hate him.” His nervousness caused his voice to shake making him sound insincere.

“Really?” he looked even more confused now, “but... but you’re so mean to him, all of us thought you hated him because you were always being really mean to him. Yuto, out of all people, knows how much you hate him the most, that’s why he always avoids talking to you now. Look, whatever happened between you two, I won’t poke my nose in where I’m not supposed to, but I think you should really give the guy a break for now. He really looks like he’ll break any second.”

“Ryutaro, you’re up!” the manager called.

“Oh! My turn! Yeah I’m going now but remember what I said, try to be nice to the guy okay?” hurriedly, he ran towards the shoot.

Looking at Ryutaro leave, he once again turned towards the laughing pair in front of him. He sighed and swallowed a bit; he had no right to be jealous of Keito. He didn’t want to see them anymore, feeling suffocated he decided to leave the room.

The night in Tokyo was filled with lit up lamps aligning the streets, no stars could be seen as the silent city was interrupted by the sound of roaring car engines.

Yuto slumped his back against the bench, “Itadakimasu” he said to no one in particular. Opening the wrapper of the burger, he took a small bite, eating as slowly as possible. He was so depressed and lonely. Inside, he craved his mother’s homemade dinner as the family would gather around the table grabbing at each marvellous dish.

Reality was cruel, he didn’t dare go home; he didn’t want to see his parents arguing anymore. Hearing them everyday like that depressed him and it wasn’t like he could ask to sleep over at Keito’s all the time. He didn’t want to be a bother or take advantage of another’s hospitality either.

In truth, it wasn’t his first time eating dinner alone; he had been doing this for about a week and a half. He would sit at this same bench, would do his homework at the library and slip in early morning and then leave for school. By this time, he was already accustomed to it all, although he still found it kind of difficult to finish his afternoon homework on time, so he was forced to finish it during lunch hours.

Munching on a fry, he rummaged through his pockets with his clean hand and pulled out the handkerchief. ‘Chinen Yuri’ he read it again. It was definitely Chinen’s; there was no one else at Horikoshi with the same name. He blew into the night air, somewhat chilly today he saw his breath create a mist of smoke. He had failed to return the handkerchief to Chinen today, in truth he was scared to talk to him.

Chinen for sure hated him; he didn’t know what the reason was but instead of feeling mad at Chinen for being unreasonable he just felt hopelessly depressed. His accumulation of problems didn’t help his emotions either and he feared if Chinen yelled at him he most definitely would break.

Wiping any leftover salt from his fingers onto a napkin he threw the bag of leftover wrappers into the garbage can beside him and stared at the handkerchief. Why would Chinen leave his handkerchief on his desk? Why was he even there in the first place, confusion boggled his mind. Thinking back onto that day, he recalled crying in his sleep, did that mean Chinen was watching him? He sunk lower into the seat feeling his cheeks warm from embarrassment.

+++

Chinen had been walking restlessly for hours. He needed to cool his head, Ryutaro’s words repeated over and over in his mind, ‘Yuto, out of all people, knows how much you hate him the most, that’s why he always avoids talking to you now.’

‘Damn it!’ he thought bitterly, ‘Yuto thinks I hate him? I don’t hate him, I’m totally screwing up and now I can’t even talk to him anymore.’ He was going insane, no longer knowing what he was doing. He hated himself. He didn’t even know what he wanted anymore.

He began to run on the sidewalks trying to relieve a bit of his stress, he just wanted to get away, away from it all, these feelings that weren’t making him himself anymore.

Most of all, he missed Yuto, he missed him so much. He was torturing himself; he couldn’t even act the way he wanted to around Yuto anymore because Yuto probably hated him for being such a total dick. That was the perfect word to describe what he thought of himself, a total dick. He wanted to punch himself.

“I miss you,” he said into the night feeling his chest tighten, “I miss you so much, I want to see you.” His voice grew quieter. He had stopped running now; trying to catch his breath, running really was never his forte.

Gasping for air with both hands on his knees, he looked up to see a familiar sight. From a distance, he could see a boy around his age wearing a purple cap that he knew all too well who it belonged to. The boy was seated on a bench with his head bent down, could it be Yuto? Was he dreaming?

His foot was rooted in the spot; one side of him told himself to turn around and pretend he never saw anything. The other part of him wanted so much to go over and see him, before he could even think or plan what to say, he was already heading towards the direction of the bench.

Getting closer, he could see that it was indeed Yuto. Yuto hadn’t noticed him yet; his head was bent down; still looking at something in his hand, recognizing his own handkerchief he made a noise from his throat unintentionally causing the other boy to look up.

They stared at each other, both just looking at one another in awkward silence. Chinen was feeling very uncomfortable; he hadn’t prepared anything and had forgotten all of the multiple excuses he had rehearsed in the morning.

               “Hey,” he said dumbly.

“Hey.” Yuto replied, his voice smaller than usual, he cleared his throat and said “this is yours; you left it on my desk.”

That was all Yuto had to say? He worried himself all night for this? Getting angry out of embarrassment he yelled out without thinking, “Keep it! I dropped it by accident on your desk; I don’t want to use it if the filthy Yuto has touched it!” His voice sounded angry and disgusted. ‘When will I learn to shut up?’ he thought beating himself up inside. He looked over at Yuto, once again it was that smile, that smile that he hated so much. His eyes were shut while his mouth was curled into a small grin; it tormented him to see such an expression.

Suddenly a tear fell out of one of Yuto’s shut eyes and he gasped as more began to fall. The smile slowly disappeared and he lowered his face pulling his cap down.

“Yuto are you crying?” he was panicking, Yuto had never cried before, he had never seen him smile and cry in such a way. He was terrible; he was such a jerk, even when Ryutaro had warned him he had screwed up again. He should’ve gone home.

“It’s okay,” Yuto replied tears now falling uncontrollably; “It’s alright if you think I’m filthy and you hate me. Nobody loves me anyway, Mama and Papa don’t care about me anymore so who would care about someone like me? You know what Johnny-san said? He said I wasn’t cute enough anymore so that’s why he replaced me with Nakayama. It’s not my fault; I don’t like being this tall either. I’m sure if I was cute like you or Yamada then Mama and Papa would still love.” He was bawling now not making much sense, saying random things because he had held it in for too long, “But it’s okay Chinen, it’s not your fault, I’m sure it was mine, everything I do is wrong, but I’ve decided, I’m going to leave, I’m going to leave JE for good, I’m not really needed and since Chinen hates me so much, this will probably be good right. Maybe I should hate you too. Then maybe I’d feel better, right? But...”

               “Stop!” Chinen yelled.

He had heard enough of this, Yuto was never like this. Hearing Yuto would leave JE, would leave him and hate him, he definitely didn’t want that the most, definitely did not want that! Why was this happening? Unable to think he quickly sat down onto the bench and embraced Yuto into his arms, holding the boy tightly, he allowed the other boy to rest his head against the nape of his neck.

His eyes widened, “Ch-Chinen, what’s going on? Don’t you hate me, why are you h-”

“Shut up! Just shut up and let me do what I want to do for once okay?” It was more of a declaration to himself than Yuto if anything. Yuto’s back that was once shaking slowly started to calm. He was still confused as to what was happening. Too tired to fight back, he found himself slowly feeling comforted by just the mere warmth from the other boy.

“Please don’t say things like leaving JE, and hating me, and hating yourself okay?” He tightened his hold on the other boy. “This is not the Yuto I know, you’re stronger than this.”

“But don’t you hate me,” his voice was shaky, “isn’t it better if I were gone?”

“What do you mean gone, you can’t mean you want to die?! I won’t let you!” He squeezed tighter.

“Um, Chinen your crushing me, and I didn’t go that far, I don’t want to die so don’t worry.”

“Oh,” Chinen loosened his grip somewhat embarrassed; he slowly moved out of the embrace and put both hands onto Yuto’s cheeks wiping his tear stained face with his thumbs.

“Now you listen here, I told you before right? Yuto is very very cute! If you leave your fans will be sad, so don’t be so selfish and decide things on your own like that.” He couldn’t tell Yuto that it was in fact he, himself who would be the saddest, he just couldn’t, it wasn’t the time for that, not yet anyway. Embracing him once again he continued, “And I’m sure your parents are having a tough time, adults are like that, it has nothing to do with you so stop thinking that way.”

Yuto nuzzled his face into Chinen’s shoulder so that only his eyes could be seen; sniffling a few times he replied shakily, “You really think so?”

Chinen nodded and then a second time more vigorously for emphasis, “Mm.”

He held him for what seemed like eternal bliss for Chinen, as time passed Yuto’s weight seemed to become heavier and suddenly he could hear steady breaths against his chest. Gently moving he was surprised to find Yuto sleeping.

‘Oh Yuto, you’re still the same after all, always so trusting,’ he thought lovingly giving him a soft peck on the cheek. Secretly apologizing to Yuto for stealing a kiss, he watched the boy sleep soundly with a silly grin plastered onto his own face.

Snuggling against the other boy for warmth he felt a new found happiness and whispered quietly to Yuto, “I’m sorry I didn’t realize sooner, I’ll never leave you alone again. I will be the one to make you happy, not Keito.”

With that he felt his own lids become heavy as the smell of Yuto enveloped him into a blissful dream.

---

A/N: So? How was it? XP haha Chinen is finally taking some charge! *grins* and, what’s this? Did he just kiss Yuto. <333 *insane giggles*

Once again, thank you for your comments! ^_^

Yuto who has a cheerful personality finds himself falling into depression as his family is falling apart and as his popularity declines. Can Chinen break down barriers before its too late? How can puppy love escalate into desire and true love?

Chapter 2:

He had been looking forward to high school for the longest time, when he was told that he would be in every class with Yuto for the next four years, his mind did somersaults.

Unfortunately, high school was nothing like what he had thought. A few months had passed since the release of the profiles and because of his embarrassment from the incident in the hallway, he found himself ignoring Yuto completely. Even worse, he realized every time they had spoken from then on, he would blurt out something rude in order to hide his feelings. They were too strong now, uncontrollably. Of course he wasn’t actually annoyed with Yuto but his frustrated behaviour showed otherwise to those around him.

Whenever Yuto was around, he found his feelings deepening; he wanted to be more than just friends and he found himself becoming aggravated whenever he saw Yuto with anyone else. He was unfairly possessive over him when he knew he didn’t have any right. Being close to Yuto made him realize he had always unintentionally hurt the other boy in some way or another.

Yuto had remained polite; taking every harsh comment with a smile, a forced one that Chinen hated seeing the most.

‘Don’t look at me like that’ he’d think to himself yearning to tell Yuto his true feelings.

The day came where he decided to call it quits; believing that he would be doing them both a favour by keeping his distance. This way he couldn’t become obsessed with Yuto, and Yuto would be free of the burden of having such a terrible friend.

This plan of his worked out well, too well in fact, that it was almost disappointing. It began subtly where he would call Yuto annoying and soon it had escalated to where Chinen was now calling Yuto a pest that didn’t have a right to interfere with his and Yamada’s time.

Much to his surprise, Yuto began to back off, voluntarily leaving when the two were together. In truth, he really wanted Yuto to stay but he could never tell Yuto the truth, no, never. He wouldn’t dare.

Adding onto the distance he had created, his schedule was now filled with School Kakumei and NYC which allowed himself even more of an excuse to spend less time with Yuto. The two were nothing now, no relation at all, not even friends. The only relationship that existed between the two was the group Hey! Say! JUMP and besides photo shoots where Yuto would leave almost instantly after the shoots were over, the group had pretty much remained inactive.

He held onto his lunch walking towards the other boy who was slightly taller than him.

“Hey Yamada!” he called.

“Oh! Hey Chinen,” Yamada smiled. Chinen looked at Yamada, Yamada was definitely a pretty boy, and it was no wonder why he was so popular. He was also a much faster thinker when it came to love, unlike a certain someone he could think of. Sometimes he wondered why he didn’t just fall for Yamada instead. Secretly he had tried, but he always knew it was just impossible. His thoughts would always return to the tall boy’s goofy grin and his heart would once again feel a happy sensation, one of which he now detested himself for.

“Yeah, I can’t have lunch with you this whole week, I have yard duty again, so sorry, can you tell the others?” He bowed his body, closing his eyes, and clasping his hands together.

“What? This week too, I thought you were on duty last week but that’s okay, I’ll tell Kamiki and them. Gosh I can’t believe you got stuck with it this week again, that sucks, picking weeds must be tough.”

Chinen nodded in agreement going into exaggerated explanations as to how much he detested picking weeds and how he wondered what he did to deserve such treatment. Once he finished whining, he began to head towards the courtyard of the school. In truth he had voluntarily chosen to get yard duty again, not because he particularly liked picking weeds out of the ground, but it was actually due to the fact that the courtyard was situated right outside the window to the classroom where Yuto ate lunch.

Yes, he was an absolute loser or stalker, whatever you wanted to call him. He couldn’t help it, he wanted to forget him, distance himself away from him, but he ended up silently watching Yuto by himself anyway.

Yuto was just so beautiful to him. He couldn’t just forget him like he wanted to. Everything about him was so admirable to Chinen; the way he looked in the Horikoshi uniform was just perfect. Just everything about the outfit on Yuto made him look like a character straight out of a shoujo manga. His long whispy bangs, the way he diligently worked on his homework silently by himself. How he longed to be beside him, to doodle onto Yuto’s notebook and hear him say, ‘Eh?’ while vigorously erasing it.

He was perfect, but Chinen had started to notice something strange about Yuto since last week. Yuto was beginning to have an odd tendency to just sit there once in a while and stare off into space. At first he thought Yuto was just thinking about his homework, but soon he realized there was a pained expression written across the boy’s face, one he had never seen Yuto with before.

He was beginning to worry; Yuto was being strange, sitting there and eating lunch by himself. Why did he choose to eat alone now anyway? What was going on? Wasn’t Yuto popular? Surely he’d still have friends even if Chinen was stealing Yamada and Kamiki, right? It wasn’t his fault, was it?

Chinen was definitely panicking; he hadn’t realized until last week when yard duty started that Yuto no longer wore a happy grin on his face to school. He was much quieter now, he was still excited at times but it was much more toned down than what he knew of. He only smiled now to be polite and this meant that there was definitely something wrong with him. He felt helpless, watching him everyday behind the bushes and not being able to do anything made him feel so pathetic. He was a coward.

Looking curiously at the window, he saw Yuto no longer moving in his desk, his head was resting against his arms. Sleeping? He poked his head out of the bushes and took a closer look, Yuto was indeed sleeping. Thinking it was his chance he quickly rushed into the school building running through the halls hastily towards the classroom. When he got to the door, he immediately stopped. Gulping a bit, he gently slid the door open. He peered through the crack and decided it was safe to enter. Slowly he walked into the classroom.

“Hey!” He whispered, “Are you sleeping?” No response, he walked quietly towards the desk where the young boy was resting on and took a peek at his notebook.

‘Hmm, math questions, so you’ve been working hard I see.’ He smiled and placed the notebook back onto the desk. Seating himself on top of the desk facing opposite to Yuto, he felt a sense of relief and joy. It had been a long time since he could be this close to him; his presence made him happy after all. His only wish now would be for Yuto to sleep just a bit longer.

He was so close now and began to take in the scene of the sleeping beauty before him, the word cute popped instantly into his head.

For a while he just sat there, staring, enjoying the sound of the birds, and feeling his heart beat in a way that only Yuto could provoke when near. Suddenly Yuto stirred causing Chinen to panick and unconsciously clutch his chest.

“Sorry...” Yuto whispered.

‘What was that?’ he wondered. He hopped off the table and moved closer to Yuto.

“Hey,” he whispered again, “are you sleeping? Sorry for what?” Chinen was now crouched on his legs on the ground staring directly at the boys face, he didn’t know what it was, but Yuto’s face at that moment made him want to cry, it just looked so sad.

‘A nightmare perhaps?’ Chinen thought with concern. He sat there for a while staring peculiarly at the boy’s sleeping face. Steady breaths could be heard. Still crouching beside him his eyes widened upon seeing a single tear roll down the other boy’s cheek.  Unconsciously he brought his hand towards him about to brush the tear away.

“...no...” Yuto murmured, Chinen’s hand stopped midway and he bit down onto his lower lip.

“...go...” he murmured some more, Chinen, although knowing Yuto was having a dream, still couldn’t help but take this as a sign rejection. Hurt and not in the right state of mind, he left his handkerchief on the desk feeling it was the only thing he was allowed to do. Taking one last look at Yuto he ran quickly out of the classroom in shame.

Yuto was now alone, “Don’t go, mom,” he sniffled, the sound of the classroom door being noisily shut had startled him out of his dream. Opening his eyes, now blurred with tears, he quickly rubbed them with his sleeve.

‘How embarrassing,’ he smiled sheepishly to himself. Looking down at the table, he noticed the handkerchief folded neatly on the corner of his desk. Picking it up, he sleepily looked back and forth in the classroom only to find empty desks greet him out of his slumber.

Looking at it closely, he saw the bottom embroidered with the name, ‘Chinen Yuri.’

“Chinen?”

------
A/N: Uh oh, looks like Chinen forgot his name was written on his handkerchief! What does Yuto think about this and didn’t Yuto sniffling over his mom make you feel sad for the poor boy? What will happen, cliffy? Nah, I’ll try not to be evil. haha Find out next chapter!

Chapter 1:
Chinen was hoping for attention, any attention that was and not just from anybody, but from Yuto. He had worked hard and now at the age of 15, he no longer was seen as the shy quiet boy but was now known as the flirt of the group with a sharp tongue.

It wasn’t as if he wanted to be seen as the flirt, but he didn’t want the others to realize his feelings for Yuto, neither did he want them to know he was attracted to someone in the group, especially since they were all boys. Also, to not seem serious, he would end all of his flirting off with rude remarks so that the others wouldn’t actually think he was gay.

Not that he thought it was bad to be gay, but he knew that he actually wasn’t, it was true that he was attracted to girls, but the only boy that made his heart beat was Yuto and it could only be him, no other boy.

Much to his disappointment, he was able to get good reactions out of everyone but the desired boy. All of his efforts were futile and it was starting to really irritate him.

-Flashback-

“Hey Yuto-kun~!” Chinen said smiling that irresistible smile, the one that made boys and girls gawk at how pretty he was.

“Oh, hi Chii-chan!” Yuto said unfazed, the usual sincere smile was given looking up from his homework.

Chinen pouted, “Hey, Yuto, do you mind if I sit on your lap?”

“Oh of course not, although I’m going to be writing so I might squish you, are you sure I’d be the comfy seat for you today?”

‘You’re the only one I want to sit on now’ he thought. “No, it’s fine,” he hopped onto Yuto’s lap, once again feeling his thin body, but somehow his body was more firm now, more muscular. The boy had grown much taller now too, when did Yuto grow so large, but yet his personality was still so childish, much more childish than the others and even himself. He found his eyes wandering across Yuto’s face; his eyebrows were furrowed concentrating on the task before him. ‘Are you not bothered that there is a boy your age on your lap? Do you not feel the slightest bit nerved or embarrassed?’

He couldn’t help but wonder but alas the answers to his questions were written well across Yuto’s face, he really wasn’t fazed at all. Sighing, he started to analyze the boy’s face, it was not usual they could be this close to one another after all. His long bangs fell over his large eyes, pretty long lashes almost as long as his own fluttered as he blinked deep in thought.

His eyes then traced his lower face, nice straight high nose, cute lips, and then he got to the jaw line. When had Yuto grown such a fine jaw line, it was so masculine, different from the rest of his features, showing evidence that Yuto was indeed a man and no longer a boy. The more he stared at it, the more he had the need to want to touch it, to nuzzle it against his own face.

Unconsciously, he found himself moving his face closer to Yuto, now breathing in his scent. It was such a nice smell, the smell of grass perhaps? Or was it of the summer air? Whatever it was it smelt nice and Chinen loved it because it was just so Yuto. The collar of Yuto’s white t-shirt had grass stains marking them and that made Chinen think with a smile, ‘You were catching bugs again weren’t you.’

“Uwah!” Yuto yelped making Chinen jolt back into reality.

“Woah, Chinen your face was so close, it startled me! What’s the matter, are you feeling dizzy? My position isn’t comfortable after all for you is it?”

Chinen deeply blushed, embarrassed, he couldn’t let Yuto know what he was thinking or worse, of what he was actually doing.

“Uh...yeah, I’m feeling kind of dizzy, I’m gonna go lie down somewhere.” He replied hastily.

“You want me to take you to the rooms?” Yuto frowned slightly, showing his concerned, kind eyes.

‘Stop this, stop being so nice to me when you don’t get it!’ he thought, “No, it’s nothing, I’m fine, you should study!” he said hurriedly and left.

-End of Flashback-

From that day on Chinen found himself to be dishonest with his feelings, he knew he couldn’t have him even though he was so close but Yuto would never love him that way anyway so it hurt him. What he hated about himself the most was that he found himself excluding Yuto from everything because he didn’t want Yuto to be near anyone else. His philosophy had become, ‘if I can’t have him then nobody can’. It was because of him that Yuto was now more to himself, it just had to be and he blamed himself.

He was beginning to hate himself and he knew the others were getting annoyed with him too. He would cling onto Yamada daily, guilt trip Yamada into only inviting him and not Yuto to certain events. Surprisingly, Yuto was never sad or mad with him, he seemed oblivious. He would reply with a, “Oh! You guys are going to the concert, I’m going this year too, I’m going with Raiya, maybe we’ll bump into you guys.” And then he’d grin, that stupid adorable grin that Chinen loved oh so much, that innocent grin that was unfazed by everything and Chinen would just think, ‘You goddamn idiot.’

He just wanted to be noticed, any kind would’ve been okay, even if Yuto thought of him as a rival he would be pleased because that would mean Yuto would pay more attention to him. He would do things purposefully to annoy him.

Today was the day the issue for the profile interview would arrive at the studio, he had declared his love to Yuto in his birthday wishes hoping to get some kind of reaction from the other boy. In it, he described his plan for their date and had spilled one of his longest daydreams. In truth, he really did want to have a date with the boy on his birthday, it was his wish but he felt it was impossible so he would play it off as a joke if the plan backfired.

The magazine was making its way and he could hear the chatters fill the room from the other members.

“Hey don’t you think Chinen is trying too hard to be cute? It’s really annoying me.” One said.

“Yeah, and he clings onto Yamada all day, oh and did you see what he wrote in his profile, he was flirting to Yuto now, what a brat.”

“He knows he’s pretty so he’s getting full of himself.”

Chinen stood at the crack of the door in the hallway. Deciding it better not to enter he quickly changed directions while he felt his anger build up along with the frustration of his useless effort, unable to contain himself he felt tears well up. It wasn’t fair, they didn’t understand his feelings, now they just thought he was full of himself, he was only joking, what was he supposed to say when they called him cute all the time anyway? Surely arguing would just make the conversation go longer than necessary and plus if he really was so cute than why did the one boy that he liked the most not think it?

Eyes blurred, he bumped hard into the chest of another person. Rubbing his forehead and quickly wiping away his tears he looked up to see the large twinkling eyes of his angel, Yuto, the last person he wanted to see at the moment. Was it really time to get rejected or made fun of, or to be called a flirt by the one he liked the most?

“Hey Chinen, oh your eyes are watering, mine are too, pollen levels are really high these days, you should really wear the mask soon!” he said proudly. For once, Chinen was happy at how stupid Yuto was.

“Hey, Yuto, did you read the profiles that came in?” he was staring at the ground, ‘go ahead make fun of me, say I’m a disgusting flirt like the rest.’ His focus on the ground hardened.

“Ye I did.”

“So?”

“Oh about your profile, haha it was cute! You really want to go out on a date with me, but a date with two boys is kind of...but we should hang out soon, I don’t think we have in a while.”

He looked up at Yuto, not sure of whether he was relieved or not, at the very least Yuto was not disgusted but he wasn’t really flustered either. But better him being his usual self than anything.

“Hey Yuto, do you think I’m cute?” He was serious and embarrassed, how could he ask this, he was mentally kicking his own butt.

“What’s this all of a sudden? Chinen of course you are very cute!” he replied with confidence.

“...are too...”Chinen mumbled.

“What?”

“You are too, I think Yuto, is cute too. C-cuter than me!” He stammered blushing.

Yuto wrinkled his face, “Uhh, me cuter than you is kind of imp...”

“No, Yuto is definitely very very cute!”he said sternly.

He blinked a bit, surprised at how serious Chinen sounded and smiled, somewhat touched.

“Oh..um, ok thanks Chinen. If you think so I’m happy.” He laughed. Both boys then started to slowly chuckle awkwardly until they started to burst out into laughter.

‘I love you, you idiot.’ Chinen thought through his laughter and tears, realizing he thought of ‘love’ rather than ‘like’ he felt his cheeks flush once more.

How can puppy love escalate into desire and true love?

Prologue:
During the making of the Hey! Say! Promotional Video, Chinen was a nervous wreck. He was sitting on Takaki’s lap watching the boy before him mouthing the words to the lyrics naturally and felt a sense of awe. The boy before him was none other than Yuto. Chinen was absolutely amazed at how much of a natural performer Yuto was; he did it effortlessly and always seemed to have so much fun.

Hopping off of Takaki’s lap, he headed towards the area where they were filming.

“Chinen, you’re too stiff!” The director cautioned. He gulped, he wasn’t used to cameras and the lights were too bright but with all that was happening he could see a figure standing behind the fence. It was Yuto, holding his own portable camera.

“Yay Chinen! Gambatte!” Yuto giggled hopping once. Chinen nodded in return and somehow felt himself feeling somewhat comforted. He looked over once more at Yuto who he could see Yuto mouthing the words ‘cute’ which made him blush. ‘He thinks I’m cute?’ his heart beat a little faster.

“Wait Chinen, where are you looking? You’re staring off into space, that’s a cute expression though, do that once more except at the camera.”

He nodded, looking once more at the spot but Yuto was already gone.

The day continued on longer than expected and his eyes widened when they were told they had to jump over a high wall with one hand. With his height he wasn’t sure if he could even make it.

“I’m scared.” He uttered but once again Yuto was there smiling at him reassuringly. Nodding and gulping, he jumped over the wall successfully although not as smooth as he liked and ran over to Yuto.

“I did it, but I was scared.” He said; little tears formed in the corners of his eyes.

“There there, you did it!” Yuto said reassuringly and gave him a comforting hug. Chinen only nodded into his arms. His body was so skinny and boney, but somehow, it was very comforting to him and he felt himself calm down a bit, he really admired Yuto a lot. He was just so kind to him and he was always touched by the other boy's gestures.

Chinen couldn't help believe he was strange, although Chinen liked Yamada, the other boy in their group, his heart always felt a tinge of pain when Yuto would run to Yamada. It was true that the two got along very well and Yuto always looked so happy with the other boy, depsite the fact that Yuto always looked happy in general, there was just something about their interactions together that made Chinen's chest tighten.

He had overheard Yuto say that if he were a girl he’d fall in love with Yamada and he didn’t clearly understand why but it made him sad.

‘Yuto, what about me? Would you date me too?’ He bit his lips, a habit when he was nervous as he saw Yuto jump onto Yamada’s back. He could hear the infamous ‘Yay!’ come out of Yuto’s mouth as Yamada started to run faster. He frowned, wishing he could be taller in order to be the one to give Yuto a piggy back.

‘Please Yuto, look at me too.’ He thought sadly.
